Entry 1: Introduction

For the longest time, I’ve thought about writing a blog—somewhere to share things I’ve experienced, my opinions (I know you’re interested in that), and a space to see whether other people are thinking the same things. I’ve always enjoyed writing and telling stories. When I was a kid, I would write little stories, have my mom make copies, and then force my family to read them and tell me what they thought. I even made my cousins participate in a Thanksgiving play every year. In college, I was President of my sorority and wrote multiple speeches that I delivered to the entire chapter. Writing things down has always been easier for me than speaking my thoughts out loud.

You’re probably wondering what this is or why I’m talking about childhood stories and Thanksgiving plays, but I promise there’s a point. Writing has always been my secret hobby, and over the last two years, I’ve gotten into journaling. I originally thought about starting a podcast, but let’s be honest, no one needs another one of those. I also think we, as a society, have lost the beauty of blogs and personal storytelling through the written word. So this is my way of saying: I’ve decided to write a blog. I want this to be a space where I can share my experiences and thoughts, and where people can hopefully relate, or at the very least, laugh.

I don’t feel weird writing this; I’m more anxious about what people will think. The older I get, the less I care about other people’s opinions, but those little questions still pop up in the back of your mind: “What will people think?” “Do people think this is stupid?” “Are people laughing and sending this to their friends?” (If you are thinking any of that, fuck off ~respectfully~ and thanks for the shares.)

My best friend, Cassidy, had a blog when we were in middle school and it was actually so successful. So 15 years later, I’ve decided to build the courage she always has had.

Cassidy and I as kids. I think this was after her 5th birthday party? Who knows, it could have been a regular afternoon too.

Welcome to my blog! I hope you enjoy it, and if you don’t, well it’s your loss!

Sincerely,

Courtney
